Note: This REQUIRES PERMANENT modification to the lower of your S&W M&P15-22.
Remove the upper from your home or building where you will do the work before doing any modification
You will need hacksaw, wood rasp and three drill bits 1/8″ 5/32″ and 3/16″
After you cut off the “buffer tube” you will need the wood rasp to file the face down and flat. Install the adapter and using the existing holes as guides, drill the small 1/8″ hole that’s off to the side all the way through. Drill the center hole with the 5/32″ bit all the way through. Remove adapter, drill center hole larger with the 3/16″ bit.
Install roll pin in the adapter till 3/16″ is sticking out. Use the 3/16 drill as a gauge.
Clear the back of the bolt rails (the plastic part) to clear the head of the screw.
Install adapter, Screw in keeper screw. Install side folder and stock. THEN and only after you have the stock installed can you can put your upper back on.

15-22 Side Folding Stock Adapter – Collapsible Stock or Pistol Brace
Note: This REQUIRES PERMANENT modification to the lower of your S&W M&P15-22.
DO NOT under any circumstances, attach the upper to the lower while modifying the lower.
Seriously… Do not think about it, entertain it or do it. EVER!!!
Keep the upper separated from the lower until the conversion is complete. They should not even be in the same room. No kidding. Get the upper out of the building where you’re working.

There is a difference between a brace and a stock. Be sure of what they are.

This adapter is to convert the standard S&W M&P 15-22 carbine collapsible stock “receiver extension” (AKA Buffer Tube) that’s molded as part of the lower receiver to a folding stock. NO OTHER USE IS ALLOWED…
1. Remove the upper from where you will do the work before doing any modification
2. Use the hacksaw to remove the receiver extension. The transition from the round part the stock slides on to the receiver is the most common spot.
3. Use a wood rasp to file the remaining part of the “tube” absolutely flat. Chamfer (edge break) the inside edge so the adapter can seat better.
If your new side folder does not have (rotational) adjustment for where it stops, screw it into the adapter and press the adapter with the stock attached into the lower. Ensure the stock is straight up and down. Mark the receiver and adapter with a marker. Remove the side folder and adapter. Unscrew side folder from adapter.
4. Install the adapter in the lower (Still with nothing in it)
5. Use the 1/8” drill and drill the 1/8” offset hole through
6. Change to the 5/32″ drill and drill the center hole through
7. Remove adapter
8. Drill the center hole through with the 3/16″ drill
9. Install roll pin in the 1/8 hole from the flat side until 1/8” is sticking out. The pin will just be at the angled part of the inner hole.
10. Install adapter with roll pin into the receiver
11. Screw in center keeper screw. Use 1/8” Allen Wrench. Just snug, not too tight. Use removable thread lock if you want.
12. Install side folder and stock
THEN and only after you have the stock installed can you can reattach the upper.
Do not remove adapter or stock with upper attached. EVER
